It began with trade and expanded into Chinese outward investment in Africa. During this period China was more concerned about support for African liberation movements, competition with Taiwan, the 'One China'. Africa–China relations, also referred to as Sino-African relations, Afro–Chinese relations and China–Africa relations, are the historical, political, economic, military, social, and cultural connections between China and the African continent. Little is known about ancient relations between China. Chinese and African leaders will gather in Beijing in early September for a summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
